Coming Back to the Body
Don’t disconnect from your body. Remember, always, that it’s right here, and in the now.
The act of feeling and sensing one’s own body grants one instant heightened awareness. Its feelings, its nourishments, its interconnectedness — all are good reasons to go inward and check in.
Hunger is another form of invitation, letting you know to be mindful (within reason…) of your body and what it wants from you.
Exercise — 1-minute sit-ups or push-ups — during the day is another simple way to come back to the body, to the self, and allow oneself to feel more. This is best done in small group of friends or colleagues, and can make for an enjoyable break from just sitting and/or thinking.
Showers and baths offer us healing times for accessing the serenity and aliveness within. These are simple and readily accessible ways of embracing silence and bodily nourishment.
Sexuality makes for yet another sacred possibility. Conscious, loving touch is a doorway to the interiors of self, which are always ready to expand, revealing previously unknown depths.
And then you have tapping, a powerful form of meditation, so good for centering oneself. The mind disappears when you tap hard and rhythmically for a brief span of time, two inches below the belly button.
Writing, on the other hand, is a great way to engage with the mind, to experience being the secretary of the mind by allowing energy from it to flow through the fingertips.
Let us not forget dancing, whether it comes from joy, sadness, anger, heartbreak, or what have you — it’s a chance to celebrate authentic feelings.
Each and every day brings new possibilities for the relationship between you and your body.
