My first instinct was to write out a list called “10 Ways to Love yourself More.” But that didn’t feel quite right. I know that our culture loves lists, but in this case, that just sounds like way too much work.
And loving yourself shouldn’t have to be work. It should be effortless. Because loving yourself is the most natural form of expression there is.
In fact, you were hardwired for love. Love is embedded deep within your circuitry. It is what propels you.
The entirety of your body is nourished by the energies of love. The Shakti that fills up your being is just another word for love, really. Love is what the grace of the divine feminine is hinged upon. It is the activating force of every goddess in every culture. Kali, Lakshmi, Durga, Kuan Yin, Saraswati, Aphrodite, Mother Mary, Yemaya, Tara — all of these goddesses embody the transformative qualities of a love informed by strength and unwavering compassion.
Now let me say something very clearly: If you’re struggling to find reasons and ways in which to love yourself, then that’s probably because your mind’s the one that’s in charge of you right now. And it’s keeping you rooted in your fear, so that you’re unaware of just how worthy you are. You might even know that you’re worthy intellectually, but you just can’t feel it. There’s a disconnect. Your mind is way too caught up in all of the mistakes, the fears, the doubts, and the disempowered beliefs that you might be holding onto.
So how about we do this?
How about, to find our way toward loving the imperfect, raw beings that we are, how about we subtract the mind from the equation?
Love is heart-based, and the mind has no business in the matters of love. So let’s push it aside.
Instead, take a moment to do this exercise:
Feel into your heart space, as you inhale and exhale through the mouth. Keep breathing and feeling into it, until you notice a sensation in your heart. It could be absolutely anything. A tiny spark, a gigantic trembling. Whatever you find, zero in on it. Breathe into it. Devote yourself to that one sensation, and with your breath, slow and deep, start to expand it into your entire heart. Know that feeling as love. As the totality of the gorgeous being that you are!
If that’s not worth loving, I don’t know what is.
Blessings to you, beautiful spirit!
